I have
always felt a connection to the wildlife on this planet, it's hard to explain without sounding a little strange. It's more of a deep respect than anything else. I find it hard to
believe that all of nature (from trees to birds to bees) were put here on
earth for the sole purpose of human consumption or entertainment, and yet that's how it appears to me most of the time. Because of those feelings - educating the public
about the importance of our wildlife, and the environment, has
become a vital component of my art.
I'm not one of those in-your-face environmentalists though - I use my
art as an educational tool.
Since learning the plight
of the
California Condor I
have made it my mission to help people understand the
importance and the significance of
the
wildlife on our planet. The Condor is on the brink of
extinction. True, natural extinction does occur,
but the
majority of species that have become extinct in the last 200
years became that way due to the actions of human beings.
When doing art festival shows I display all
of my artwork with the most current information
available
on the species from the Division of Wildlife. My greatest reward
comes from the positive feedback, and the encouragement to "keep on, keeping on"
that I receive. I thoroughly enjoy painting the "details" of wildlife -
and imagine that I will for the rest of my life.

I did go to art school, have taken art classes, and won awards - but none
of those things really have anything to do with "why" I do my art - they
were just stepping stones. I truly just want you to enjoy looking at my paintings and
drawings. I want you to see the beauty in the wildlife that surrounds us, even if
they are not what we humans define as beautiful. I want you to somehow feel the connection that I do. If I can succeed at
conveying any of those feelings with my art work - I will be happy. Hopefully, you will
really understand what I
am trying to accomplish, and pass
those feelings and thoughts on to others.
I found my sales niche within the art festival circuit, and
since 1990 have participated
nationally in as many shows as I can. In 2008 I am making the transition to
entering shows that are for Miniature Artwork only. These shows are held
all over the world, artwork is submitted by mail. This will give me more
time to paint, and less travel time and expenses. I will note on my
schedule page if I will personally attend the show.
